The trials of 2021 were many, but so, too, were the opportunities to meet those challenges head-on. It is with this momentum and determination that we look ahead to 2022 with one mission in mind: To ignite the power of community to nourish people facing hunger. As we reflect back on 2021 and look ahead to 2022, we want to thank you for choosing to partner with us in serving our community. Your continued support is critical and deeply appreciated in the fight against hunger. In fiscal year 2021, we distributed over 110 million pounds of food — a 34.5% increase over the previous year. There were several factors contributing to this rise in need, including the high unemployment rate and the increase in price for basic goods like gas, diapers, and groceries. To meet this need, Food Bank of the Rockies is spending nearly $1 million every month, more than triple our food purchasing budget from two years ago, including upwards of 800,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables each month to distribute at no cost to our partners. We have also expanded our Culturally Responsive Food Initiative, increased the reach of our Mobile Pantry program, and expanded home deliveries of EverGreen Boxes™.
Those are just a few of the initiatives we’ve undertaken and expanded upon this year in our mission to end hunger. For more stories detailing our collective impact in the fight to end hunger, please check out our annual report.
