Taking Action Against Hunger

September is Hunger Action Month, which presents an opportunity for us and for you to dig into our ongoing fight against food insecurity. One in eight people in Colorado and Wyoming are projected to struggle with hunger this year. That’s hundreds of thousands of individuals who don’t know where their next meal will come from and who worry about feeding their children, for whom the numbers are even higher: One in seven kids in Colorado and one in six kids in Wyoming are projected to face food insecurity in 2021. That is simply unacceptable.

At Food Bank of the Rockies, we frequently repeat a basic statistic: $1 helps provide 4 meals. If you’re reading this, you’ve likely seen it before. You might even be wondering why we keep coming back to the same detail over and over. The reason for that is also simple: Because every dollar truly matters. When we say that donations of any amount are appreciated, we’re being sincere. With each dollar, we’re able to purchase food at wholesale prices or less. We’re able to strengthen our programs to provide more people with more nutritious food. We’re able to shorten the line in our effort to end food insecurity for good.

All that said, we know that times for many are hard right now. There are ways other than monetary donations to help nourish your community, many of which are highlighted here on our blog. Your donated time is deeply impactful, and we thank you for choosing to partner with us in fighting hunger in whatever way you can. We couldn’t do any of it without you.
