Nourishing Neighbors with the Bounty of Summer

Summer is the season of fresh fruits and vegetables. At Food Bank of the Rockies, we always prioritize sourcing and distributing as much nourishing, fresh produce to our Hunger Relief Partners as possible in order to give our neighbors facing hunger the nourishing food they need to thrive. Starting in June 2021, we put an even larger emphasis on this mission by launching our FRESH Program, which provides partners with an average of more than 790,800 pounds of fruits, vegetables, and dairy products at no cost every month.

In fiscal year 2022, which ended June 30, Food Bank of the Rockies sourced and distributed over 9.5 million pounds of produce through FRESH — a huge milestone, and a large step toward our goal of eventually providing our partners with 1.2 million pounds of fresh produce and dairy products at no cost every month. Even more exciting is the fact that of that 9.5 million pounds, over 2.2 million pounds was locally grown: a win-win for supporting our local agricultural partners and fulfilling the nutritional needs of our neighbors facing hunger.

To learn more about two of our local agricultural partners, Talbott Farms and Spring Born, check out this recent blog post. To support our mission of providing fresh, nourishing food to everyone who needs it, please consider donating today.
