Food insecurity here in Colorado has reached the highest level we’ve seen in a decade. At the same time, all COVID-era support has now ended, leaving Food Bank of the Rockies with a gap in funding equivalent to 20 million meals. This combination of challenges is straining Food Bank of the Rockies and our Hunger Relief Partners at a time when our neighbors experiencing food insecurity need us the most.
In response, we have scoured our fiscal year 2025 budget to look for ways we can realize efficiencies in our operations, reevaluating every expense of the organization while keeping our Hunger Relief Partners and the communities they support center of mind. They are our core purpose.
Additionally, we are leaning into programs like Food Rescue, in which retail and non-retail corporate partners donate food that we quickly turn around and distribute to Hunger Relief Partners and neighbors. We also have been surveying neighbors in the last few years through our Culturally Responsive Food Initiative to identify the foods that are familiar and preferable for distribution to our neighbors facing hunger. These are just some of the ways we are ensuring that we remain efficient in our operations while working to solve the problem of hunger in our region.
We cannot do this work alone. Please join us in doing whatever it takes to make sure everyone who needs food can access it through our programs. Donate today at foodbankrockies.org/give.
